Why are Return to work programs important?

Return to work programs are integral parts of any injury management process. These programs outline specific duties to be done by the recovering employee. The involved medical practitioner must approve a return to work program and any changes induced in the plan.

However, if the injured employees have difficulties resuming their duties immediately, provide 'alternative duties.' These duties include:

- Pre-injury tasks on a part-time basis
- Supernumerary (assisting their colleagues)
- Different tasks on different or the same area
- Fulltime or part-time modified pre-injury tasks

Regardless of how a particular organization manages OHS and WHS, there are always possibilities of injuries. But having a simple, clear, and effective injury management system portrays how your organization is committed to the wellbeing of its workers.
